Wedding in Cortona and Arezzo
Two towns of eastern Tuscany with the Valdichiana plain between them: a hill town ceremony, a country dinner.
Cortona climbs a steep hillside above the Valdichiana, and from its upper lanes the plain spreads out below like a map. Arezzo, a short drive away, is a working city with a sloping main square, Piazza Grande, and a wider choice of hotels for a long guest list. Both comuni open historic rooms for civil ceremonies, and the country between them holds estates, farmhouses and villas with gardens. Couples often marry in town in the late morning and drive down to the plain for the evening. We keep track of each town's calendar, its halls and the guest transfers.
What we organise in Cortona and Arezzo
A ceremony in Cortona
The comune lists the council hall, the mayor's room, the Fortezza del Girifalco at the top of the town and the Sala dell'Assedio in the Sant'Agostino complex among its ceremony places.
A ceremony on Piazza Grande
In Arezzo the council hall and cloister of the Palazzo Comunale are joined by rooms of the Palazzo di Fraternita on Piazza Grande, booked once their managers confirm availability.
Estates in the Valdichiana
Villas and farmhouses on the plain and the slopes around it, compared by capacity, beds on site, parking and the rules on music and hours.
Dates away from the crowds
Arezzo's antiques fair fills the centre on the first Sunday of each month and the Saturday before, and the Giostra del Saracino takes over Piazza Grande in June and September.
Transfers on hill roads
Cortona's lanes are steep and narrow, so we plan drop-off points, short shuttles and help for older guests between the town and the venue.
A dinner of eastern Tuscany
A menu from the local kitchen and wines of the area, tasted with you beforehand and served on a terrace or in a barn converted for celebrations.
Tell us about your celebration
Tell us the occasion, the date and the number of guests. We will suggest a format, a venue and vendors, and prepare a fixed written estimate before any work starts.
Why couples plan eastern Tuscany with us
Two town halls, two procedures
Arezzo asks for the ceremony request at least 45 days ahead, while Cortona works with its own calendar and tariffs. We deal with both and tell you which suits your date.
Weekend ceremonies are possible
Both comuni celebrate at weekends on request, at a separate tariff they set themselves. We reserve the slot as soon as your date is firm.
A rain room in Arezzo
A ceremony in the town hall cloister comes with the council hall booked for the same hour in case of bad weather. We apply the same thinking to every outdoor moment of the day.
One coordinator, one estimate
A single coordinator from our Florence team speaks your language throughout, and you receive a fixed written estimate before preparation begins.
Questions about a wedding in Cortona and Arezzo
Can we have a legal wedding at Cortona town hall?
Yes. Foreign citizens need a nulla osta from their consulate or embassy in Italy; for non-EU countries the consul's signature is legalised at the Prefettura of Arezzo. If you do not speak Italian, an interpreter attends the ceremony, and we arrange one.
Can guests throw rice after the ceremony in Arezzo?
Not inside or at the entrance of the municipal buildings: the comune bans rice, confetti and petals there and charges a penalty. We move that moment to the reception, where nobody minds.
Which weekends are busiest in Arezzo?
The antiques fair runs on the first Sunday of every month and the Saturday before it. The Giostra del Saracino is held in June and on the first Sunday of September, with rehearsals in the days before, and hotels fill on those dates.
Should we choose Arezzo or Cortona for our wedding?
Arezzo offers more hotels and a city setting around Piazza Grande; Cortona is small, steep and panoramic, better for an intimate group. Many couples stay at an estate between the two and use both.
How far is Cortona from Florence?
As a rule a little over an hour by car to Arezzo and around an hour and a half to Cortona, depending on traffic. Guests usually fly into Florence or Pisa, and we arrange the transfers.
