Christmas, Easter and Ferragosto in Tuscany
Family holidays at a villa or in town, where Italian traditions meet your own and the table is laid before the guests arrive.
In Italy a holiday takes more than a single day: Christmas runs until Epiphany on 6 January, Easter includes Holy Week and Easter Monday (Pasquetta), and Ferragosto on 15 August becomes a day of family lunches and trips to the sea. On these dates many restaurants and shops are closed, and that has to be planned for. We take care of what cannot be left until later: the villa, the table, the groceries, the programme for children and the transfers. The coordinator leads the preparation, and you receive a written estimate before work starts and a timetable for the holiday days.
What we arrange
A villa for the holidays
We find a house with enough beds, heating for winter and a garden for summer. We book with a margin, because holiday dates go early.
The festive table
A Christmas lunch or dinner, an Easter table, an Italian picnic for Ferragosto. The menu combines local dishes with what is customary in your family.
Groceries and a cook
We buy the groceries in advance, before the shops close for the holiday. For a small party we bring in a home cook.
Programme for children
A visit from Santa Claus or the Befana, an Easter egg hunt in the garden, workshops. The plot is chosen for the age and language of the children.
Local traditions
A Christmas market, a festive Mass, an evening concert, Easter processions. We advise what is worth seeing and what needs tickets in advance.
Transfers and outings
Pick-up at Florence or Pisa airport, transport between the villa and town. On holidays public transport runs rarely.
Tell us about your celebration
Tell us the occasion, the date and the number of guests. We will suggest a format, a venue and vendors, and prepare a fixed written estimate before any work starts.
What to know about holidays in Italy
Closed doors
On 25 and 26 December, 1 January, Easter and Ferragosto some places keep reduced hours. We book tables and suppliers well ahead.
Two traditions together
If your family keeps Christmas in its own way, we fit Italian dishes and customs into your usual order rather than replacing it.
Weather and season
Winter in Tuscany can be cold and damp, summer hot. We choose a place with heating or shade in mind and keep a back-up.
Help on the spot
On holiday days the coordinator is reachable: if something breaks, a supplier does not arrive or a doctor is needed, you call them.
Frequently asked questions
How is Christmas celebrated in Tuscany?
Christmas Eve is spent with the family, on Christmas Day a large lunch is customary, and 26 December is a public holiday (Santo Stefano). We adapt the programme to your own tradition.
What is Ferragosto and how is it spent?
It is the holiday of 15 August, traditionally a day for a family lunch, a picnic or a trip to the sea. Many shops close, so planning has to start early.
Can we spend Catholic Easter in Tuscany?
Yes, in Holy Week towns and abbeys hold services and processions. We advise on the timetable and prepare the table for Sunday and Easter Monday.
How early should we book a villa for the holidays?
For Christmas, Easter and August it is best to book four to six months ahead. Later, only less convenient options remain.
Do entertainers and cooks work on holidays?
They do, but by prior agreement and with their own family plans in mind. That is why we contact them early.
