Vineyard wedding in Tuscany

A ceremony among the vines and a dinner in the cellar: what is possible on a wine estate and how its working year shapes the date.

A winery remains a working farm even when it hosts a wedding. So the first thing we find out is when the vines are being treated, when the harvest falls and whether guests may walk between the rows. The date and the ceremony plan depend on it. A good vineyard wedding is built around three places: a spot among the vines for the ceremony, a terrace or courtyard for dinner and a cellar where guests taste the wine. We look for an estate where all three are available, and we agree with the owners what matters to them to protect.

What a winery wedding includes

01

Choosing the estate

We look for a winery with a ceremony spot, dinner space for your guest count and an indoor fallback in case of rain.

02

A ceremony among the vines

We choose a row or the edge of the vineyard with a view of the hill, plan the guests' walk over level ground and advise on shoes.

03

Dinner in the cellar or the courtyard

Barrels, brick vaults and a long table among them make an intimate format, while a courtyard or terrace suits a larger dinner.

04

Tasting the estate's wines

We agree with the owners an aperitif and an evening programme where guests meet the estate's wines, and settle the wine list for dinner.

05

Seasonal planning

We account for the phases of the year: flowering, green grapes, harvest, and advise which date suits your idea.

06

Agreements with the owners

We ask whether outside catering, your own wines, music hours and overnight stays are allowed, and write it down before the contract.

Tell us about your celebration

Tell us the occasion, the date and the number of guests. We will suggest a format, a venue and vendors, and prepare a fixed written estimate before any work starts.

What we check on a winery

The farm's working calendar

During the harvest in September and October people and machines work in the vineyard. We agree the hours in advance so the party does not get in the way.

The ground underfoot

Between the vines the ground is uneven and sticky after rain. We look at where a walkway can go and how to bring elderly guests through.

The cellar as a room

A cellar is cool and fire rules limit how many guests it may hold. We confirm the maximum seating and the temperature for evening dress.

The estate's wines or your own

At many wineries only the estate's wine is served, at others you may bring your own. We settle this before estimates and contracts.

Questions about a vineyard wedding

What time of year is best for a vineyard wedding?

Spring brings fresh green and soft light, summer is hot, and September offers the sight of ripe grapes but may coincide with the harvest. We choose the date together with the owners.

Can the ceremony take place right among the vines?

Often it can, but not always and not in every phase of the season. Owners may restrict access to the rows because of treatments. We check this for your date.

How many guests does a winery hold?

In the cellar usually from twenty to a few dozen, in the courtyard or on the terrace more. We count the seating for each place separately.

Do we have to order wine from the winery itself?

It depends on the owners. Some estates require that only their wine is served, others allow you to add your own. We learn the rules early.

What if it rains on the wedding day?

The ceremony moves to a hall, the cellar or a marquee. The decision is made at an agreed hour and suppliers are ready for both versions. We build the fallback into the estimate from the start.
