Christening in Tuscany: the church and a family lunch
A baptism in a Tuscan church followed by a lunch for the family, where guests arrive from several countries and need a clear order for the day.
A Catholic baptism in Italy is arranged through the parish: the conditions, the date and the required documents are confirmed by the parish priest. We do not promise that a particular church will accept a foreign family, and we say so at the start, but we help you approach the parish and prepare the papers. After the ceremony the family usually gathers for lunch. It can be a country house, a restaurant room or a villa with a garden. We choose the place by the number of guests, the children's ages and the routes, and arrange the table, cake, flowers and photographer, and meet the guests who fly in for a single day.
What is included in organising a christening
Approaching the parish
We help find a church, contact the priest and learn what documents and preparation the family needs; the decision always rests with the parish.
An interpreter for the ceremony
If the family speaks another language, we bring an interpreter so that the parents and godparents follow the rite.
A venue for the lunch
We choose a house, a room or a villa within an easy drive of the church, with space for a pram and a quiet corner for naps.
Menu and cake
A menu for adults and a separate one for children, a dessert table and the traditional gifts for guests, such as sugared almonds and bomboniere.
Flowers and styling
Modest decoration of the church within the parish rules and a table styled to the family's taste.
Photographer and guests from abroad
A photographer for the ceremony and lunch, airport transfers, lodging for relatives and the return trip in the evening.
Tell us about your celebration
Tell us the occasion, the date and the number of guests. We will suggest a format, a venue and vendors, and prepare a fixed written estimate before any work starts.
How a christening differs from other celebrations
The parish first, everything else after
We do not fix the lunch date until the parish priest has confirmed the conditions: the day, the hour and the venue all depend on it.
Papers for the godparents
For the role of godparents, supporting documents from their own parish are usually needed; the procedure is confirmed with the priest, and we remind the family in good time.
A day built around the baby
The baby's sleep, feeding and travel set the schedule: we arrange the ceremony, photographs and lunch so the child does not tire.
Guests for one day
For those who fly in only for the christening we provide the route, the transfer times and the coordinator's phone number in advance.
Questions about a christening in Italy
Will an Italian church accept a family from abroad?
The parish priest decides, and we cannot guarantee consent. We help write to the parish and gather the papers, and you receive the conditions directly from the priest.
What documents are needed for a Catholic baptism?
The list depends on the parish and the family's citizenship; the parents' documents and details of the godparents are usually requested. The parish confirms the exact list.
Who can be a godparent?
The Church sets the requirements: as a rule godparents are baptised Catholics, often with confirmation from their own parish. Please ask the priest in advance.
How many guests can we invite to the lunch?
We choose a venue for your group, from a small family table to a large lunch in a villa. We state the capacity and the house rules when we propose venues.
How early should preparation begin?
Several months ahead is better: parishes need time to reply and guests need time to book travel. If the date is fixed, tell us at once and we will say honestly what can be done.
