Castle wedding in Tuscany

Castles and historic residences in Tuscany: which halls and courtyards suit a ceremony and a dinner, and which rules apply.

Tuscany has many fortified estates, medieval castles and Renaissance residences. Some belong to private families and are let for celebrations, others are held by the state or a municipality. For a wedding this means different terms: in one place tables can stand in the courtyard, in another not a single stake may go into the ground. The main question when choosing a castle is not the view but the practice. How guests get inside, where the kitchen works, whether there is a hall for rain, how suppliers come and go and until what hour music is allowed. We answer these before you decide, and we handle the agreements.

What we arrange in a castle

01

Choosing a castle for your guest count

Capacity in the hall, the courtyard and the state rooms varies widely. We check it against your guest list, not just the marketing description.

02

A ceremony in the courtyard or a hall

We choose the spot with light, acoustics and the guests' route in mind, and prepare a version for rain and wind.

03

Dinner in historic halls

We plan the seating, bring in the kitchen and decide where service and bar stand so the staff can work comfortably in old rooms.

04

Agreeing the restrictions

Historic buildings have heritage rules: floor loads, open flame, fixing decor to walls. We find them out from the owner before developing a concept.

05

Logistics for suppliers

Narrow entrances, gates and stairs complicate loading, so we plan delivery times, the route and the unloading of equipment in advance.

06

Overnight stay and return of guests

If the castle does not take overnight guests, we find hotels and agriturismi nearby and organise transfers there and back.

Tell us about your celebration

Tell us the occasion, the date and the number of guests. We will suggest a format, a venue and vendors, and prepare a fixed written estimate before any work starts.

What sets a castle wedding apart

Heritage restrictions

Many castles cannot be altered even temporarily. We design the decor around the rules of the building, not the other way round.

Tight and uneven spaces

Stone stairs, cobbles and narrow passages affect the choice of shoes, the route for elderly guests and the layout of tables. We walk this route on the visit.

The acoustics of stone

Music bounces in stone halls and sounds louder than it seems. We choose the sound system and the line-up of musicians for the room.

Agreements with the owner

Some castles run as hospitality businesses, others as family residences. We know what to ask in each case and record the answers in writing.

Questions about a castle wedding

Can a legally binding ceremony take place in a castle?

A legally binding ceremony is held in a comune hall or in a place the comune has approved for weddings. For a castle we find out whether this is possible, or suggest a symbolic ceremony. Requirements depend on citizenship and are confirmed with the comune and the consulate.

How many guests does a castle hold?

From a few dozen to a few hundred, but for a seated dinner in the halls the real figure is usually well below the stated one. We ask for the maximum seated capacity, not the standing reception figure.

What if open flame is not allowed in the castle?

Candles are replaced by safe lanterns, and for fire elements of the decor an open area in the courtyard is chosen. Rules depend on the building, so we request them early.

Until what hour can we dance?

The owner's rules and the comune set the limit. In castles in the countryside the limits are often gentler than in a city centre, but a night programme cannot be guaranteed without agreement.

When should we start looking for a castle?

Few castles are ready to host weddings and popular dates go fast. For the season from May to October start a year ahead or earlier. Send a request and we will tell you what remains for your date.
