Cooking party in Tuscany
A celebration where guests roll out the pasta themselves under a chef's guidance, then sit down to eat it.
A cooking party suits a couple, a family or a group of friends who would rather share a table than sit through a banquet. The chef arrives at a villa or an agriturismo with an assistant, guides the guests through the menu and explains along the way why the dough for tagliatelle is made the way it is. We choose a kitchen with enough counter space for everyone, agree the menu around allergies and preferences, and take care of shopping, tableware and cleaning. A group of 6 to 14 people usually cooks three or four dishes in 2 to 3 hours and dines on the result.
What a cooking party includes
Chef and assistant
The chef leads the session in a language you speak, while the assistant keeps the kitchen running so guests can stay with the dough and the sauces.
A menu for your group
Fresh pasta, Tuscan starters, a main course and a dessert. We agree the dishes in advance with allergies, vegetarians and children in mind.
A venue with a real kitchen
A villa, agriturismo or private house where everyone has a place at the counter. We check the hob, oven and work area before anything is booked.
Ingredients and equipment
We buy flour, eggs, cheese, vegetables and wine from local suppliers and bring aprons, boards, rolling pins and tableware for the final dinner.
A morning at the market
If you like, the day starts at a local market with the chef, choosing seasonal vegetables, cheese and herbs for the evening menu.
Wine and the shared dinner
We pair the dishes with regional wines, lay the table for everyone and leave time to eat without hurry once the cooking is done.
Tell us about your celebration
Tell us the occasion, the date and the number of guests. We will suggest a format, a venue and vendors, and prepare a fixed written estimate before any work starts.
What we settle in advance
Kitchen and work stations
The usual mistake with this format is a villa kitchen where two people can work and ten are invited. We see the space beforehand and add extra tables when needed.
Pace of the session
We ask the chef to sequence the programme so that the dough rests while guests prepare the sauce and nobody stands idle.
Allergies and restrictions
We collect each guest's allergens and dietary limits and pass them to the chef before shopping starts, not on the day of the party.
Children near the stove
When a family with children is coming, we prepare a separate simple task for them, such as shaping ravioli, and keep them away from the hot stove.
Questions about a cooking party
How many guests suit a cooking party?
A group of roughly 6 to 14 works best: everyone takes part and the chef can help each person. For a larger group we split guests into stations with separate dishes, which needs a spacious kitchen or several tables.
Do we need cooking experience?
No, the session is designed for people who cook at home on a Sunday. The chef explains each step as you go and takes over the tricky stages such as shaping or baking.
Can we hold it in the villa we have rented?
Yes, as long as the villa has a working kitchen. We check the hob, oven, tableware and the owner's rules, and bring any missing equipment together with the ingredients.
How are vegetarians and allergies handled?
We collect restrictions before the menu is written and adapt dishes so that these guests cook and eat the same things rather than a separate plate. With a serious allergy the chef also separates work surfaces.
How far ahead should we book?
For May to September and the harvest season we suggest writing 4 to 6 weeks ahead; in other months two or three weeks is usually enough. Exact timing depends on the date and venue, and the estimate is prepared on request before preparation starts.
